The Guilded Table is a vibrant artisan collective with multiple individual studios and a shared common space in which a group of carefully selected artists, makers and skilled crafts-people can design, create and sell their goods.
Santa Barbara’s Funk Zone has historically been an industrial, marine and manufacturing district, however, as many of those industries moved from the area, The Funk Zone was left by the wayside while surrounding areas were revitalized and renewed. The positive offshoot of that neglect is that it became a rare respite for local artists and craftspeople, but in recent years that funky artist community has started to give way to more commercial endeavors. Conscious of the sometimes intangible but undeniably negative impact that will have on the community at large, the Waterline placed great importance on providing space for a concept that will support and nourish the Funk Zone's creative roots.
Enter: The Guilded Table. A guild (noun) is defined as an association of artists or craftspeople for mutual aid and the pursuit of a common goal. To gild (verb) is to coat with gold or to give a bright and pleasing aspect to something otherwise considered commonplace. Marrying the two together, The Guilded Table is an artist collective with multiple individual studios and a large common space in which a group of carefully selected artists, makers and skilled craftspeople are given the opportunity to design, create and sell their works.
